A Graveyard Shift
These once carrier based Grumman S2 Tracker aircraft were antisubmarine search and destroy planes in the 60’s and 70’s.
Here they lay stripped of their avionics decaying in a field South of St Augustine, Florida.
I was fortunate enough to get these images before the owner/collector sold them all and closed the “graveyard”. Having viewed them on several occasions I felt that their story could best be told in black and white.
I photographed them with a Canon EOS 40D with an 18-55mm zoom lens set at 53mm.
The ISO was 200 (that day it was heavy overcast adding to the drama) with an aperture of f7.1 and a shutter speed of 1/250th sec. All mounted on a Bogen 3221 tripod and head. The images were processed in iPhoto 11 (version 9.2.3) where I boosted the color and added a little edge blur, then thru Photoshop CS5 (version 12.0) for some unsharp mask and cropping.
