Cliff Palace is a popular location in Mesa Verde National Park, Colorado, and almost every visitor has a photo like this one. Much of the structure is located under a large cliff overhang so that it doesn’t always receive direct sunlight. This photo was taken during the late afternoon with a Nikon D7000 and a Nikkor 16-85 mm VR lens at 40 mm. The exposure was f/11 and 1/640 sec. The oblique lighting illuminated most of the structure and provided definition to the brickwork.
