Since the demise of the "Red Caboose", the back end of railroad freight trains in the U.S. is typically brought up by a metal box containing telemetry to advise the operating crew about the status of the rear end of the train. Commonly referred to as an "EOT" (end of train) or "Fred" (flashing rear-end device), this one is bringing up the rear of Florida East Coast Railway's train 101, on one of the railroad's office cars.
