I photographed this block of East 9th Street in NYC in the late 1950’s. I think the “hand-assembly” with the varied edges adds to the impact of the piece rather than using a photo app to make a perfect composition or simply trimming the edges straight .
The girl in the white coat was posing for me in each shot which also adds an interesting and humorous element.
By taking shots every few feet I was able to eliminate cars parked on my side of the street as well as other unwanted elements.
Shot with a 35mm Zeiss Contaflex with a Zeiss Tessar 45mm 2.8 lens.
Probably Kodak Plus X film.
