I was hiking along a trail a thousand feet above the valley floor as a late spring snow storm moved through. Hail fell on me, and beautiful light was moving across the cliffs in the distance. As if that weren't enough, snow began to fall on the La Sal Mountains in the distance. I took several shots, and converted this one to monochrome to emphasize the shadows and textures. Monochrome seems to highlight the wildness of this place, which is what I was hoping to capture. Unfortunately I only had my 24-105 mm lens with me and couldn't shoot as close as I wanted, so I cropped this to show only the cliffs and the mountains. Gear: Canon 5D MkIII, 24-105 mm lens, tripod.
