Early this morning I heard a woodpecker hammering on a tree but I never saw him. Later I was walking in the woods and discovered where he'd been, he'd opened two holes in this tree trunk which started the sap flowing. The Red Ants found the prize and were quick to take advantage of a December treat of fresh food. Notice that the sun shining through the ants belly is causing a focused light spot on the trunk :o) Gaston County, NC, USA.
