This is without a doubt one of the most “out of the box” landscape photos I have taken. The location is Maui, HI. No, it’s not your typical picturesque Hawaiian landscape. Rather it looks like the surface of a distant planet somewhere in the galaxy. The shot was taken from the very edge of the crater of the dormant Haleakala volcano at an elevation of 10,000+ feet. I took this shot with my trusty old Nikon D40 and an AF-S DX Nikkor 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G ED lens. The settings were ISO 200, 55mm, f/10 at 1/400 sec.
