I was set up on a tripod, waiting for a song sparrow (the brown spot beyoud the thrush) to inch its way over toward the berries, and eventually take his lunch. I had seen him do that repeatedly over the previous few days, so I was ready for him. What I wasn't ready for was the opportunistic wood thrush who swooped in from the right, snatched a berry on the fly, made a tight U-turn and flew back past me with his prize in his beak.
