On a summer day in California's San Joaquin Valley, a hummingbird flew into one of the trees in our back yard to take some respite from the double-digit temperatures. I walked outside and slowly moved closer to get a photo of these tiny beauties. It was panting and clearly was only interested in cooling off, not even looking towards me.
