There’s a lot going on at Macphun these days: The company’s name is changing to Skylum, indicating they’re no longer a Mac-only software developer, and they just announced their first cross-platform product, in the form of Luminar 2018—a major update to their popular image-editing program for both Mac and Windows computers.

Nighttime cityscapes always look spectacular, with their shimmering lights, colorful neon signs, and towering buildings. Unfortunately, it’s not uncommon to return home and discover that our images don’t appear as spectacular on the computer as they did on location. 

This is for those of you who claim to be serious about wildlife photography and think you have all the gear you need. The video below will either reinforce that notion, or make you realize that, among other things, you need a much bigger wallet.

The darkroom technique of “dodging and burning” an image to selectively manipulate the exposure of a photograph has been around far longer than digital photography. The idea is to “dodge” portions of a scene that are underexposed, and “burn” areas that are overexposed.
