Sony Intros Compact RX100 VI with 24–200mm Zoom Lens, Faster Autofocus & Improved Video

Today Sony introduced the Cyber-shot RX100 VI—the latest model in their popular series of pocketable cameras offering superb optics and a host of high-end capabilities.

The new Sony Cyber-shot RX 100 VI is the first model in the series with a broad range Zeiss Vario T* 24-200mm f/2.8-4.5 lens that handles everything from expansive scenic photos to tight shots of distant subjects.  The camera features an upgraded BIONZ X image processing system and a 20.1-megapixel 1-inch Exmor RS CMOS sensor designed to maximize speed and image quality.

Sony says the camera’s optical image stabilization system provides a four stop shutter speed advantage, to minimize camera shake in low-light conditions and when shooting at the telephoto end of the lens without a tripod.

The Sony RX100 VI utilizes a fast and precise hybrid AF system that acquires focus in as little as 0.03 seconds, with 315 focal plane phase detection AF points and sophisticated subject tracking capabilities. The camera provides high-speed shooting up 24 fps with full AE/AF tracking, with a buffer limit up to 233 images.

Other features of the new RX100 VI include a significantly improved retractable EVF, and a host of sophisticated video features, including 4K HDR compatibility—a first for a Cyber-shot camera.

The new Sony Cyber-shot RX100 VI is expected to ship in July for $1,200. You can read complete details on the Sony website. And speaking of Sony, be sure to look at our recent review of the company’s A7 III full-frame mirrorless camera.
