Kudos, Pizza Hut. You’ve created a very funny fake public service announcement (PSA) warning about “The Dangers of Selfie Sticks.” The video, which is embedded below, is led by motherly narrator who, at first, praises selfie photographers.

Panasonic took the wraps off the new Lumix DMC-G7 mirrorless camera this morning. The Panasonic Lumix G7 features a 16-megapixel Micro Four Thirds image sensor and can shoot 4K video. The G7 is also the latest Panasonic camera with 4K Photo, a feature that allows you to extract 4K-sized (approximately 8MP) still images from the 4K video.

Most people I know (including yours truly) have a love-hate relationship with social media. We love it because it helps us stay in touch with our family, friends, and colleagues who might live in other parts of the country (or other parts of the world); it helps us promote what we are doing (mostly in a good way); and it’s one of the best places to catch all the important (and not-so-important) breaking news of the planet.

I see a lot of cool imaging gadgets in my line of work but the Lily Flying Camera is one of the more intriguing devices I’ve looked at in a while. A remote controlled aerial drone in the vein of the popular Phantom quadcopters from DJI, Lily adds an interesting new twist to UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles). It’s fully automated and requires very little to no practice from users to take it for an aerial spin and capture sky-high video footage and still photos.

Canon made some unexpected lens news overnight: the company introduced the lightweight and compact Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 STM standard lens. This fixed focal length lens is designed for advanced amateur photographers and has an effective focal length of 80mm when paired with an APS-C sensor-based EOS camera such as the Canon Rebel T6i.

When I tell someone I’m the editor of Shutterbug, the discussion quickly turns to photography (imagine that!) and everyone, absolutely everyone, has something to say about taking photos. This is one of the best things about having cameras in smartphones. More and more people are enjoying photography and that’s the truth, plain and simple.

We make a lot of selfie stick-related jokes here at Shutterbug but we’ve never seen anything as hilariously depressing as the Selfie Arm. The invention, which we hope is meant as a satirical joke, is a fake arm that you can attach a smartphone or camera to take a self-portrait.

Massive, exotic telephoto lenses are always fun to imagine shooting with and here’s one giant piece of glass that’s actually designed to capture rockets launches. According to the seller on eBay, the Jonel 100 2540mm F/8 Mirror Lens was used for capturing Saturn V and other similar rockets as they were launched into space.
