Camera drones can be a great way to capture aerial footage of sporting events but they can also be a serious hazard when they crash. That’s what happened during a recent bike race in California where a drone ended up taking out one of the cyclists after it fell from the sky.

Time-lapse videos are all the rage these days but there’s much that separates a decent time-lapse from a great one. One thing that can help set your time-lapse apart is to feature some type of movement in the video to give it a more dynamic look. And one way to add movement is by using some type of camera slider.

Now this is pretty awesome. The folks at The Lighting Channel have a great new video (below) that demonstrates 10 “super simple lighting setups to create radically different moods.”

We watched this video at least a dozen times over the weekend and we still can’t get enough. Mats Wernersson is some kind of master craftsman or maybe he’s just a really clever guy with what Jeff Spicoli would call “an awesome set of tools.”

It’s no secret that the online photo lab WhiteWall is one of our favorite services for making gallery-worthy prints of our favorite images. Back in 2015, Shutterbug Editor-at-Large George Schaub reviewed WhiteWall’s services for our website and came away impressed. WhiteWall has also received a TIPA “Best Photo Services” award in the past, and I’ve, personally, used them for printing a number of my photos on a variety of surfaces including acrylic and metal and have been very pleased with the results.

Talking Pictures by DCW takes you on a trip down camera memory lane as it pays homage to the 30th anniversary of Canon’s iconic EOS system in the below video. Showing the various film, DSLR and mirroless cameras in the EOS (Electro-Optical System) universe from 1987 to 2017, the 1.5-minute clip demonstrates how much and, in many cases, how little Canon’s EOS models have changed over the years.

Sony got in the game this morning by unveiling the super speedy Sony A9 full frame mirrorless camera, which is designed for sports and action photography. The A9 features what Sony is calling the “world’s first” full-frame stacked CMOS sensor with 24.2MP of resolution, and it has the ability to shoot “blackout-free” bursts of images at up to 20 frames per second (fps) for up to 241 Raw or 362 JPEG images.

Do you want to shoot outdoor portraits but can’t find any decent locations to serve as backdrops? Maybe you should be looking closer to home. That’s the message in our latest video with New York Times-best selling author/photographer Jordan Matter who finds five great portrait photography locations in the “ugly” neighborhood outside his studio in New York City.

Nikon has been relatively quiet in introducing DSLRs aimed at enthusiast photographers in the past year but that all changed this morning with the announcement of the new D7500, the company’s latest camera in the D7000 line. The Nikon D7500, which replaces the D7200 from 2015, uses the same 20.9MP, DX-format (APS-C) CMOS sensor with no low pass filter as the flagship DX-format Nikon D500.
