The annual Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards is a lighthearted competition designed to not only showcase fine imagery, but to bring the importance of conservation to the forefront so photographers and others can do their part to help preserve threatened species.

Here’s another hilarious video from folks at TheCameraStoreTV, which poses the question: If you were lost in the wild, could your photo gear help save your life?

We’ve all seen them: people clumsily using the low-resolution camera in their Apple iPads to take photos at tourist spots. Well, one dolphin at Sea World in Orlando, Florida finally had enough.

We occasionally turn to “The Slow Mo Guys” when we need a good laugh, and the video below sure did the trick. Gavin uses a $150,000 Phantom Flex digital camera at 1000 frames per second to capture Dan eating a cob of corn that’s slathered with ketchup and mounted on an electric drill. Sound stupid? It is.

I’m way too polite and well-mannered to come right out and say that photographers lie, so instead I’ll repeat some of the things I’ve heard them say and translate their words into language we can all understand, i.e., the truth. For example, when my friend told me, “Very useful blog this week, Jon!” she really meant, “You couldn’t write your way out of a paper bag, you schlub, but I ran out of Nyquil and I had to get to sleep somehow…”
