Well, the birds are queuing up in the backyard and you know what that means. Three calling birds, four French hens and two turtle doves—or is it four calling birds? They won’t stand still so it’s hard to count. And no one knows where in hell the partridge went. She was last seen talking to a couple turkeys who were all paranoid about some big feast that’s supposed to be happening soon. Anyway, you do know what this means, right? Time for our intrepid list of holiday photo gifts that cost less than $100.

“Born in New York.” That’s what is says on Tenba’s website about their Axis camera backpack lineup. “…tough enough to withstand the rough and tumble city streets and hardcore enough to get you—and your gear—to the other side of the globe for your next big adventure.” For my money, this isn’t just marketing hyperbole—in fact, they left out a lot of compelling adjectives that equally apply, like innovative, stylish and versatile.

Leica just unveiled a new M-series digital camera, the M10-D. It’s an exciting blend of Leica’s oldest, most basic technology combined with today’s most modern, most advanced capabilities. It’s a camera with a dual personality, and although that’s not the meaning behind the “D” in its name, it very well could be. Shutterbug spent some time using an early sample before its release. Here’s the rundown on the new M10-D and a hands-on user report.

It’s not only puppies that suffer from separation anxiety. Tell me that I have to check my camera bag at the airport and I’m going to anxiety all over the place. I might even opt for a Greyhound. So when it comes to selecting a carry-on camera bag, I’m doggone careful. Here are six great camera bags to fly with and a detailed explanation of the rules that surround carry-on baggage size.

Camera bags come in all sizes, shapes and prices. Reminds me of the selection in the ice cream freezer at my local ShopRite, only better for you. While all bags are designed to protect fragile equipment during transportation and storage, each of these five models has at least one unique characteristic of its own. Plus, all are name brands, and all are priced between $19 and $99.

Here are some tips for making the most of the fall color change, including five fun filters (the physical, screw-in kind). Scientifically, the leaves of deciduous trees lose their chlorophyll and reveal the reds, oranges and yellows that were hiding beneath the green. For me it’s like a kindergarten kid getting their first box of 64-color Crayolas—so many new colors and so little time.

Okay—you’ve taken all the prudent measures to protect your home and family from Mother Nature’s temper tirades. That’s terrific! But what about your cameras, image files and photographs? Whether or not you acknowledge global climate change, you’ve got to admit that there’s been some vicious weather juju going on recently. Let’s talk preparation.

There is nothing more invigorating for a zealous photographer than putting a brand new lens on a familiar, reliable DSLR body. The world looks different through a new lens, and the tableau of photo opportunities hits the reset button, refreshing all of the possibilities. My experience with Tamron’s new Tamron 70-210mm F/4 Di VC USD tele zoom brought this realization into focus, no pun intended.

The Rhake—a weather-resistant, roll-top backpack from Mission Workshop—accepts a custom-fitted capsule that converts it into a camera backpack. According to the manufacturer, Rhakes are “made by hand in small batches in the USA,” and judging from the workmanship, I’d say that’s an accurate statement.
