For my photography I prefer small, lightweight, responsive cameras to big, heavy, bulky DSLRs. While small cameras once lagged behind DSLRs in image quality and performance, today’s compact cameras are challenging their dominance with great cameras like the Sony A7S II, Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX100, Nikon P900 and the new, elegant retro Olympus Pen-F. These compact, bridge and hybrid cameras can even do things some big, bulky DSLRs can’t.

It’s always fun to see what goes into making today’s innovative photography gear, and in the video below you’ll get a behind-the-scenes tour of a Fujifilm factory where cameras and lenses are manufactured.

The 24-megapixel Sony A6300 mirrorless camera is the follow-up to the A6000 from 2014 and, in that respect, it has some very big shoes to fill. The A6000 was one of the best-selling mirrorless cameras of all time and Sony is clearly hoping to strike gold with the A6300 as well.

When the invitation arrived to join Sony and a group of editors and writers in Austin, Texas, for a couple days of shooting with the new A6500 APS-C mirrorless camera, my response was swift and unequivocal: “When do I leave?” Austin is a fun town known for superb cuisine, great music, friendly folks, and an abundance of shooting opportunities, and I’ve been eager to get my hands on the compact powerhouse A6500 ever since it was announced last October.

So much for “basic,” Sony seems to be saying, the A7 III is a premium model worthy of its pricier full-frame stablemates: the high-resolution A7R III and the speedy A9 mirrorless cameras.

The Sony A7R II is a mirrorless, compact system camera with a full-frame sensor and extremely high resolution. The A7R II records images with 7952x5304 pixels and while the more than 42MP resolution is not as high as the sensor resolution of the Canon EOS 5DS, it provides images on the same level as digital backs for medium format cameras.

There are a variety of new things under the Sony A7R III’s hood, including the ability to shoot 10 frames per second (fps) continuous bursts of images at full resolution, 4K video recording across the width of its full-frame sensor, longer battery life, and a host of other features.
