After getting to shoot with the 64MP Leica S3, we paid a visit to the Phase One booth at the photokina show in Germany this week where we got a chance to try out the 150MP XF IQ4 medium format camera system. Notice a pattern here?

The recent CES show in Las Vegas saw the debut of the Panasonic GH5S, a mirrorless camera designed specifically to shoot in low light conditions. We got to see the GH5S in action at the show and shot the below video featuring Panasonic Lumix USA product manager Sean Robinson and the much buzzed about camera.

Hasselblad kicked off the photokina 2016 show with a bang today, announcing two new snazzy-looking medium format cameras. The new Hasseblad V1D 4116 is just a “concept” camera, at this point, but it sure looks enticing. It’s an updated version of Hasselblad’s classic Hasselblad V camera, with a modular design and a 75-megapixel, square-format image sensor.

Zeiss made a big splash at the photokina show in Cologne, Germany last month when it announced the Zeiss ZX1, a compact camera with a Zeiss-designed, 37.4MP full-frame sensor. Today at the PhotoPlus Expo show in New York City, Zeiss officially took the wraps off the camera by displaying prototypes of the ZX1 for the first time.

One trend has continued unabated since the first Shutterbug's Photography Buyer's Guide: As the number of digital cameras has increased, the number of scanners has decreased. My guess is that while the presence of camera-phone manufacturers at PMA 2005 does not bode well for the future of lower end point-and-shoot cameras, they will have no impact whatsoever on the...

35mm SLR & Rangefinder Cameras

"World's Smallest" SLR Camera
Said to be the "world's smallest 35mm AF SLR" the new Pentax *ist is certainly petite (4.8x3.3x2.5") and weighs a mere 11.8 oz. While this may seem to be an...

With digital cameras offering more and more megapixels for still photos and 4K and beyond for video, photographers need ways to store all that imaging info. Enter SanDisk, which just unveiled a 1TB (terabyte) SDXC card prototype at the photokina show today.

Weird stuff is my favorite category at any show: the things that don't fit into sensible categories, but are useful, or unusual, or yes, just plain weird. Some manufacturers of weird stuff rejoice in being called weird (they are often the most fun of all) but others sometimes flinch and say things like, "Um, we'd prefer to be called, er, unique." At a...

Although very few 35mm SLR cameras were introduced at PMA 2004, there was no shortage of new lenses. Many of the new products are very short zooms, necessary for true wide angle effects with digital SLRs or lenses upgraded for greater compatibility in digital photography. Even though this...
