Is This Your Dream Photography Job? Hotel Chain Wants to Pay You to Travel & Take Sun Photos

Ok, we cannot officially endorse this job opportunity until we find out some more details – specifically, whether the photographer retains image rights – but it does sound intriguing. The Days Inn economy hotel chain is offering what it calls a “sun-ternship” to one lucky photographer who will travel across the U.S. this summer on an all-expenses paid trip and shoot photos of the sun while getting paid $10,000.

The images the photographer captures will be featured in select Days Inn hotels and on their website and social media channels. (The tie-in to Days Inn, of course, is that the company’s logo features an illustration of the sun.)

Interested applicants can apply now through May 20, 2018, by submitting “their best original outdoor photo along with 100 words on why they’re the brightest person for the job” at daysinn.com/suntern

Here are some of the “highlights” and qualifications for the job, as per a Days Inn spokesperson’s email to Shutterbug:

Highlights:

• Upon completing the month-long Sun-ternship, the designated Sun-tern will get paid $10,000, a glowing recommendation from a Wyndham exec, and Wyndham Rewards Diamond Status for five years.

• Photos captured by the Sun-tern will be featured in select Days Inn hotels and on Days Inn’s website and social channels.

• The Sun-ternship will have you jet-set across America’s sunniest cities with pre-paid adventures along the way, from sunrise yoga in San Diego to a sunset sail in Miami, and lots of sunny moments in between.

Who can be a Sun-tern?

• A bright, creative, aspiring photographer

• Unlike the sun, you don’t need to have 27 million (academic) degrees

• Passion for travel, adventure and the outdoors

• Thrill-seeker open to new, unforgettable experiences

• Ability to travel across the U.S. for one month. Yes, you can take Sundays off.

• Familiarity with applying sunscreen

Like we said, it sounds like a fun gig but if you have to give up all the rights to the images you shoot during the trip, maybe it’s not worth it to you? On the other hand, it could be quite an adventure.
