While walking on sea ice recently in Antarctica, I came upon this scene. I am often attracted to images that offer less visual noise, which I find can be unsettling at times. The silence and starkness Antarctica offers can have a powerful, soothing effect if you can be still long enough to just stop and take it in. For me the cool colors are calming. This weddel seal then gratuitously offered the gesture of looking up just as I captured the scene. Minimal post-editing done. Canon 5d,MKII, EF 24-105 is, 1/400 @ f 11, 85 mm, iso 250.
