Discoveries
Gordon made these images last year while a student at St. Paul's School in Concord, New Hampshire. He had taken a few blur images in an advanced class and used an independent study course to explore the technique further. The blur effect in his photos can come from either camera or subject movement, but most often it's the result of a combination of the two. "It was something new to explore," he says, adding that not knowing what you were going to get in the image made it especially interesting.

Gordon is now a freshman at William and Mary, which doesn't offer any photo courses, but does have a photo club that offers the use of a darkroom to its student members.

He is not certain of his major yet, but is, he says, "leaning toward philosophy or environmental studies." For the past few summers he's been taking pictures for a weekly newspaper in his hometown of Poughkeepsie, New York, and he's sure that no matter what he does in the future, photography will always be a part of his life.

Gordon Stillman was recommended to us by Charles J. Lemay, photography instructor at St. Paul's School, Concord, New Hampshire.
