This morning Sony announced it has overtaken Nikon in the U.S. market for full-frame interchangeable lens cameras, one spot behind industry leader Canon. Sony leapfrogged Nikon because of the company’s 23% growth in this category with record sales in both interchangeable-lens cameras and lenses in 2017.

Sony is also the world’s largest image sensor manufacturer. As you can see from the graphic below, the full-frame market as a whole would be facing a small decline as compared to a year ago were it not for the growth experienced by Sony.
