Shutterbug Photo of the Day: “The Dark Hedges, Ballymoney, Co. Antrim, Northern Ireland” by Colette Cannataro

Our Shutterbug Photo of the Day by Colette Cannataro features rows of seemingly ancient beech trees flanking the lonely "King's Road".

“The Dark Hedges is truly a sight to behold. Located in Northern Ireland, this beautiful avenue of beech trees was planted by the Stuart family in the eighteenth century. It was intended as a compelling landscape feature to impress visitors as they approached the entrance to their Georgian mansion, Gracehill House, which—in this photo—would be straight ahead. Two centuries later, the trees remain a magnificent sight. Fans of Game of Thrones will recognize it as The King's Road,” writes Cannataro.
