Panasonic Unveils the New Flagship Lumix GH5: The First Camera to Offer 4K 60p/50p Video

Panasonic created quite a buzz at Photokina last fall by teasing a groundbreaking new flagship camera for their Micro Four Thirds system, promising a wide array of innovative pro features for both still photographers and videographers. Today, the Lumix GH5 is a reality, with the unveiling of a model that redefines what a mirrorless camera can do.

Designed as a mobile, mirrorless camera built to professional standards, the Lumix GH5 promises unsurpassed image quality, fast performance, precision autofocus, and superb color rendition for both still and video applications.

With its new Digital LIVE MOS sensor, the Lumix GH5 offers a pixel count 25% greater than the earlier GH4, while eliminating the low-pass filter. The camera also boasts a new Venus Engine image processor that Panasonic says delivers natural-looking image details while eliminating false colors at the edges.

Panasonic also upgraded the noise reduction (NR) system in the Lumix GH5, claiming 4X NR accuracy and high-quality results for both still and video applications at ISO values up to 25,600. The camera also boasts a 5-axis dual image stabilization system said to provide a 5-stop shutter speed advantage.

While videographers will appreciate the camera’s 4K 60/p/50p recording capabilities, the Panasonic Lumix GH5 also offers a revolutionary “6K Photo” feature that can extract 18-megapixel still images from video with approximately nine times the pixel count of Full-HD.

Other key features of the groundbreaking Lumix GH5 include a precision, 225 point, high-speed autofocus system, a rugged magnesium die-cast frame, spashproof and dust proof construction, and an OLED display with 3,680K-dot resolution and 100% field of view. Built for professional use, the GH5 features a durable shutter unit designed for 200,000 actuations.

The Panasonic Lumix GH5 will be available (body only) in late March for $1999.99. Your can read more here for complete details.
