Olympus Intros OM-D E-M10 Mark III Mirrorless Camera (Hands-On Photos)

Olympus unveiled the new OM-D E-M10 Mark III this morning, a compact mirrorless camera with a classic retro-style look and the ability to shoot 4K video. The Olympus E-M10 III is the company’s entry-level mirrorless camera and the successor to the Mark II from 2015.

Like the Mark II, the Olympus E-M10 Mark III uses a 16MP, Micro Four Thirds sensor and has built-in 5-axis Image Stabilization (IS) offering four steps of correction for handshake. The Olympus E-M10 III also has a 3-inch touch panel tilt screen on back and, in general, resembles its predecessor though the new camera is slightly larger and slightly heavier.

Shutterbug spent some time with new Olympus E-M10 Mark III models at a press event prior to this morning’s launch and have included some hands-on photos of the camera in this story.

There are a few key features to differentiate the new Olympus E-M10 III from its predecessor:

• TruePic VIII image processor (TruePic VII in Mark II)

• 121-point autofocus (81 points on the Mark II)

• 4K video at 30p (full HD on the Mark II)

• ISO auto range of 100-6400 (100-1600 on Mark II)

• 8.6 frame per second (fps) max burst shooting (8.5 fps on Mark II)

• 15 types of Art Filters including new Bleach Bypass (14 Art Filters on Mark II)

• In-camera video editing including trimming and the ability to create stills from 4K footage (none on Mark II)

• Slightly longer battery life

The Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark III will come in either a black and silver two-tone body or a black body when it goes on sale in late September 2017 with an estimated street price of $649.99 USD/$799.99 CAD (body only), and $799.99 USD/$999.99 CAD (M.Zuiko 14–42mm EZ Lens kit).
