The Leica TL is a Powerful New Mirrorless Camera Crafted from a Solid Block of Aluminum

Leica today unveiled an innovative mirrorless camera, the Leica TL, which offers an impressive array of features and a gorgeous titanium-anodized body crafted in Germany from a solid block of aluminum. It's based on the Leica T, which we reviewed back in 2014.

Once you get beyond the solid feel and great looks of the Leica TL with its fine finish and curved chamfered edges, you quickly realize that beauty is more than skin deep. The camera features 32GB of internal storage, a new optical image-stabilization system, fast autofocus performance, and lens compatibility with legacy Leica R lenses via the R-Adapter L.Leica outfitted their new mirrorless camera with a large, 3.7-inch touchscreen display and an intuitive control layout. Fast access to controls is further facilitated by a fully customizable MyCamera menu designed to provide immediate control for spontaneous shooting.Leica says the new TL owes its high performance and uncompromising image quality to an advanced processor and APC-C CMOS format sensor. The camera is touted as delivering exceptional contrast, sharpness and color rendition, even under difficult lighting situations. In addition to a striking titanium finish, the Leica TL will also be offered in silver and black.

Like smartphones, the Leica TL features integrated Wi-Fi and the ability to create its own mobile hotspot—enabling users to quickly transfer stills and videos to computers, tablets, and other Wi-Fi-enabled devices. A free app for both iOS and Android will further facilitate file transfer and enable remote control of the camera’s shutter speed and aperture settings.

The new Leica TL will be available later this month, along with a host of accessories, including fine leather camera protectors and color-coordinated camera straps. Price for the body is $1,695. You can read further details about the camera and Leica TL lenses on Leica’s website.
