Make Stunning Landscape Photos with These Shooting and Editing Tips from Serge Ramelli (VIDEO)

Sound composition skills are important for all forms of photography, but when it come to shooting landscapes, the ability to frame a scene properly is absolutely critical. In this detailed tutorial you’ll learn one pro’s secrets to shooting and editing stunning seascape images.

Serge Ramelli is a French landscape photographer and an experienced instructor, and in the video below he offers great tips on composition while photographing the beautiful El Matador Beach in Malibu, CA. He explains how to get the “money shot” by composing an image with a strong foreground, middle ground, and background.

Ramelli begins by searching for a compelling foreground element, which he says is the biggest challenge to beach photography. You’ll see why he often removes his shoes and wades into the sea to get what he’s looking for—in this case, a large rock.

Once Ramelli settles on the foreground, he experiments with different vantage points until he’s satisfied with the middle ground and background of the scene. He then plays with long exposure settings to capture the image

Once back in the studio, Ramelli demonstrates a number of Lightroom techniques for editing landscape and seascape images. His efforts result in several magical beach photos, both in color and black and white.
