Look at This Amazing Photo of the Smoldering Kilauea Volcano in Hawaii Captured from Space

We’ve seen some amazing photos of the erupting Kilauea volcano in Hawaii but this one might take the cake. Shown at the top of this page, it’s an image captured from space a few days ago of smoke pouring out of Kilauea.

The incredible image was shot by astronaut A.J. “Drew” Feustel from on board the International Space Station (ISS), which is orbiting the Earth.

“It is easy to see the activity on Hawaii’s #Kilauea Volcano from @Space_Station,” Feustel wrote in a tweet accompanying the image. “We hope those in the vicinity of the eruption can stay out of harm’s way.”

Kilauea, which is located on the Big Island in Hawaii, began erupting a few weeks ago, sending lava flow and toxic gas into the surrounding towns, destroying dozens of homes, and causing mass evacuations. Eighteen lava-spewing fissures have since opened up in the area around Kilauea, sending massive "lava bombs" made of volcanic rock into the air.

We recently shared jaw dropping time-lapse footage of lava from the eruptions consuming an entire car in Leilani Estates near Pahoa, Hawaii.

You can see more images from space on Feustel’s Twitter feed and on NASA’s website.
