Here’s How to Get a 50mm F/1.2 Lens for Only $20

Mathieu Stern always has great ideas on weird and inexpensive lenses and his latest project is one of his best yet. In the below video, Stern shows how you can get a 50mm F/1.2 lens for only $20.

Crazy you say? Yes, it does sound a bit mad considering that this focal length/aperture optical combo will typically set you back $1,500 or more. Watch the video though and you’ll see how Stern is able to marry an old Bell and Howell f/1.2 projector lens with a macro ring to create this bargain basement solution.

The best part are the results, which he displays in the video and are surprisingly good. Try it out yourself; these projector lenses are fairly common on eBay and you won’t have to invest very much for this experiment. We’d love to see your results!

If you like this clip, you’ll also want to see this post where Stern recommends four lenses for under $30.
