Fuji Unveils Selfie-Snapping X-A2 Mirrorless Camera, Stylish XQ2 Compact, and XP80 Tough Model

Fujifilm launched a trio of snazzy compact cameras this morning: the X-A2 mirrorless compact system camera, the premium XQ2 compact model, and the XP80 tough model.

The light and portable Fujifilm X-A2 has a nifty feature for snapping selfie photos: a 175-degree tilting LCD screen with face and eye detection that you can twist around to frame yourself for a self-portrait. It uses a 16.3-megapxiel APS-C CMOS sensor and has optical image stabilization.

There’s also a new Fujinon XC16-50mm II (24-76mm) F3.5-5.6 OIS lens that pairs with the Fuji X-A2. The lens has 12 glass elements in 10 groups including three aspherical elements and one ED element.

Also new to match with the X-A2 is the Fujinon XC50-230mm II (76-350mm) F4.5-6.7 OIS lens. The lens has optical image stabilization and 13 glass elements in ten groups including one aspherical lens and one ED element.

The Fuji X-A2 standard kit (XC16-50mm II) will be available in silver, white and brown in February 2015 for $549.

The Fuji XQ2 uses a 12MP, 2/3-inch, X-Trans CMOS II sensor that’s designed to control moiré and false color generation by using an original color filter array with a randomized pixel arrangement. Fuji says this technology removes the need for an Optical Low Pass Filter (OLPF), which can degrade resolution. There’s also a Lens Modulation Optimizer (LMO) for sharper photos, along with Optical Image Stabilization.

The camera’s new Fujinon F1.8 4x zoom (25-100mm) lens is built with four aspherical and three extra low dispersion lenses. Each lens surface is coated with HT-EBC to reduce flare and ghosting.

The Fujifilm XQ2 will come in black, white and black and silver in February 2015 and sell for $399.

The new FinePix XP80 is a rugged digital camera that’s waterproof to 50ft./15m, shockproof from 5.8ft./1.75m, freezeproof to 14°F/-10°C and dustproof. It has a 16.4MP CMOS sensor with a 28-140mm 5x optical zoom lens, Wi-Fi connectivity, and captures full HD movies at 1080p, even underwater.

The FinePix XP80 tough camera goes on sale in March 2015 for $229.
