Clean Your Camera Lenses Safely with These Tips & Tricks from an Experienced Pro (VIDEO)

If there’s one sure way to capture “dirty pictures,” it’s to shoot them with a filthy lens. And as you’ll see in the video below, there’s more to cleaning your expensive glass than simply wiping off the front and rear elements.

Joe Edelman is an award-winning pro with 40 years' experience shooting portrait and advertising photos. He’s a firm believer of using spotless lenses, and in this video he demonstrates how he keeps his prized optics pristine.

Edelman notes that, “Photographers spend thousands of dollars on lenses, yet so many people cut corners when it comes to keeping their lenses clean.” He notes the importance of using lens caps when you’re not shooting, and then he demonstrates three simple cleaning tips he uses every day.

As you’ll see in the video, all it takes to get rid of dust, fingerprints, and oily smudges, is a lens blower, some wipes, a soft brush, and a container of spray cleaner. But you have to use these cleaning products properly, if you want to do a thorough and safe job. Watch the video to see how it’s done.

You can find more helpful tips on Edelman’s YouTube channel. And be sure to watch the humorous and cringeworthy video we posted earlier on how NOT to clean a camera unless you want an expensive paperweight.
