Canon Unveils Faster G9 X Mark II Compact Camera with Bluetooth at CES

Canon just unveiled the G9 X Mark II compact camera at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. The follow-up to the popular G9 X camera from 2015, the Mark II version is designed to be faster with added Bluetooth wireless capability.

Like the previous model, the Canon G9 X Mark II has a 1-inch, 20.2 megapixel sensor and a 3x optical zoom (28-84mm equivalent) lens but adds Canon’s new DIGIC 7 image processor, which is designed to improve subject tracking and scene detection. The new processor also helps ramp up the Canon G9 Mark II’s continuous shooting speed, allowing it to capture bursts of images at up to 8.2 frames per second (fps) in both Raw and JPEGs formats. (The previous camera could only shoot Raw images at approximately 3 fps.)

The Canon G9 X Mark II is also the first Canon PowerShot digital camera with built-in Bluetooth (along with Wi-Fi and NFC) to help it pair with compatible smartphones or tablet computers, allowing photographers to wirelessly transfer images between the devices while remotely controlling some features.

The G9 X Mark II also features in-camera Raw conversion and what Canon says is an improved Time Lapse Movie Mode, to help photographers capture images at preset intervals and combine them to create a short time-lapse movie clip. The G9 X Mark II comes in black or silver. The silver version has a silver top plate and leather tone in a retro style design.

Here’s a rundown of all the key features in the new Canon PowerShot G9 X Mark II compact camera, which looks nearly identical to its predecessor:

• 1-inch, 20.2MP CMOS sensor

• DIGIC 7 image processor

• Built-in Wi-Fi, NFC and Bluetooth capability
