Canon Intros 2 Next-Gen EF 70-200mm Zoom Lenses: A Fast F/2.8L and an Affordable F/4L

Canon just dropped the curtain on two next-generation 70-200mm zoom lenses, giving photographers a choice between a fast EF 70-200 f/2.8L IS III USM and an affordable EF 70-200mm f/4L IS II USM.

Both new 70-200mm zoom lenses are relatively compact for their range, and feature a rugged build quality designed to withstand the rigors of outdoor photography. The Canon EF 70-200 f/2.8L IS III USM is expected to ship in August at a price of $2,099, while the Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L IS II USM will begin shipping later this month with a suggested retail price of $1,299.

The fast EF 70-200 f/2.8L IS III USM features Canon’s Air Space Coating to reduce flare and ghosting, as well as a Fluorine coating on the front and rear elements to reduce finger prints and other contaminants. Other capabilities include optical image stabilization with 3.5 stops of correction, a minimum focusing distance of 3.9 ft. and an eight-blade circular aperture.

Canon says the affordable new EF 70-200mm f/4L IS II USM zoom lens has numerous improvements over its predecessor, most notably an image stabilization system that has been upgraded from three stops to five shutter speed stops of correction. This new model also features three IS modes for a variety of shooting situations.
