Rogue Photographic Design has updated their XL Pro Lighting Kit, adding new attachments and various improvements that include: a new Strip Grid, lighter weight materials, quicker attachment and a travel bag. This lighting system includes the XL Pro Reflector with two quick change attachments that allow users to create a softbox or a strip grid.
Another extremely rare, very large, and very expensive lens has gone on sale on eBay. This time it’s a one-of-a-kind, all-black Leica R 600mm, F/5 Apo-Telyt Unicum lens, which had an asking price of $229,999.
DNP has launched a smaller, lighter, and faster flagship DS620A dye-sublimation photo printer for event photographers. The latest addition to DNP’s line of DS Series printers, the DS620A is a compact, pro-grade photo printer and can produce up to 400 prints per hour. Kodak Alaris recently announced the winners of the annual KODAK Gallery Elite Award, which honors photographers who are members of Professional Photographers of America (PPA) that have used KODAK PROFESSIONAL Photographic Paper to perfect their art. This is the the 29th anniversary of the award, a culmination of annual state and district awards held throughout the US in conjunction with the PPA print competitions. Kodak Alaris will showcase the four winning images in its booth (#726) at Imaging USA (I-USA)—the annual PPA conference and trade show, Feb. 1-3, 2015.
Stop me if you’ve heard this one before: another one of Nikon’s new full-frame digital SLRs has a problem. In this case, a small number of Nikon D750s have been producing a dark, shadowy band in the frame when capturing images with lens flare. While the issue was first reported by D750 owners who took to YouTube to demonstrate the problem, Nikon eventually acknowledged that the lens flare flaw was real and said it would offer free repairs. Last week, the company issued an official service advisory for the D750, saying that Nikon service centers needed to a adjust the camera’s autofocus sensor “to resolve the occurrence of unnaturally shaped flare.”
In what is, perhaps, another depressing sign of the times for full-time, in-house photography jobs, Sports Illustrated has laid off all of its staff photographers.
Levi Bettweiser is a photographer. He’s also the founder of The Rescued Film Project—an amazing online archive of images captured on film between the 1930s and the late 1990s. Every image in the collection was rescued from rolls of undeveloped film that Bettweiser obtained from a variety of locations across the globe.

Nikon issued an official service advisory this morning for its D750 in the wake of complaints from some photographers that the DSLR produces a dark shadowy band in images with lens flare. The Nikon service advisory includes a way for photographers to check serial numbers for D750s that might be affected by the problem.
