It was the talk of the photokina show last year but it wasn’t available in the United States…until now. Panasonic has just announced that the Lumix DMC-CM1 smartphone with its photography-friendly, 20-megapixel, 1-inch image sensor and 4K video capabilities is coming to the U.S.

We’ve just returned from Sony’s New York City press conference where the company announced a trio of groundbreaking new cameras: the 42.4-megapixel, full frame Sony A7R II mirrorless camera, the 20MP Sony RX100 IV compact camera and the 20MP Sony RX10 II superzoomer.

We’ve seen some strange-looking cameras before but this could be the strangest one yet. Called the New York Leica Gun Rifle, this prototype, sniper-style camera is expected to fetch up to $400,000 (€350,000) at the WestLicht photography auction later this month.

HEXO+: The HEXO+ is another new imaging drone that is capable of auto-following and auto-filming your subject. The HEXO+ is similar to the Lily Flying Camera drone, which we featured last month and took the UAV world by storm.

We can expect Virtual Reality videos to be the next big advancement in Internet entertainment. Always ahead of the curve, Google yesterday introduced its Jump camera rig—a tool designed to help filmmakers create innovative 360-degree VR videos for YouTube that can be viewed on Google’s Cardboard VR headset. The Jump is a circular VR frame that uses 16 GoPro Hero4 cameras working in unison and set vertically (side by side) along the outer edge of the ring.
