This morning at Photokina in Cologne, Germany Nikon launched their new line of KeyMission action cameras with three models that will ship next month along with a host of accessories. The new cameras include the KeyMission 360 we previewed at CES in January, along with the KeyMission 170 offering 4K UHD video and the wearable KeyMission 80.

This morning at Photokina Sony introduced a new flagship A-mount camera with a high-resolution 42.4-megapixel back-illuminated sensor, a redesigned interface, and 12 fps continuous shooting. The A99 II is the first model in Sony’s full-frame line to feature the company’s ultra-fast 4D focus system with 79 cross-type AF points.

Panasonic announced today that it’s developing the new Lumix GH5 mirrorless camera, which will be capable of recording smooth, high-precision 4K 60p/50p and faithful 4:2:2 10-bit 4K video “for the first time in the world.” The Panasonic Lumix GH5 will also features “6K PHOTO,” which extracts approximately 18-megapixel still images from ultra-high-quality video with approximately nine times the pixel count of Full-HD.

Panasonic just announced the 16-megapixel DMC-G85 (G85), a new rugged, mirrorless camera, which is the latest model in the Lumix G series. The Panasonic G85 is splash and dust-proof and includes 5-axis Dual I.S. (Image Stabilizer) 2 for getting sharp shots in difficult shooting conditions.

Hasselblad kicked off the photokina 2016 show with a bang today, announcing two new snazzy-looking medium format cameras. The new Hasseblad V1D 4116 is just a “concept” camera, at this point, but it sure looks enticing. It’s an updated version of Hasselblad’s classic Hasselblad V camera, with a modular design and a 75-megapixel, square-format image sensor.

Today Epson introduced the FastFoto FF-640, dubbed by the company as the “world’s fastest photo scanner.” An alternative to flatbed scanners, the FastFoto scanner has a throughput rate of one photo per second with integral photo tools to restore and archive treasured images for print or social media sharing. Ideal for hobbyists and archivists alike, the unit can handle prints up to 8x10 as well as speedy document scanning for those who want to make electronic files of important papers. Shutterbug Editor-at-Large George Schaub got his hands on a pre-release unit and filed this report.

After appearing at times like it might bow out of the mirrorless camera market, Canon reaffirmed its commitment to the category tonight with the introduction of the new, top-of-the-line EOS M5. While the Canon M5 might resemble a DSLR, this compact interchangeable lens mirrorless camera is smaller and lighter than even Canon’s tiny SL1 DSLR, the company said.
